How Is a Gold Loan Amount Decided?

Your loan amount depends on the value of your gold and the Loan-to-Value (LTV) ratio. Gold value = net weight × gold rate per gram × (karat ÷ 24). Loan amount = gold value × LTV.

Under the RBI directions effective 1 April 2026, the maximum LTV for gold loans taken for consumption purposes is 85% for loans up to ₹2.5 lakh, 80% for loans above ₹2.5 lakh and up to ₹5 lakh, and 75% for loans above ₹5 lakh. This calculator applies these slabs automatically.

Things to Keep in Mind

Lenders value gold on net weight and purity after testing, and deduct stones and impurities. They also use their own benchmark rate, so the actual offer may be lower than this estimate.

The bullet plan here assumes simple interest. Some lenders compound interest or have different repayment rules, and tenure options vary. Confirm all terms with the lender.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. How much loan can I get on gold?

You can get up to the LTV cap on your gold value: 85% for loans up to ₹2.5 lakh, 80% for ₹2.5 lakh to ₹5 lakh, and 75% above ₹5 lakh, as per RBI directions effective 1 April 2026. The lender's own valuation decides the final amount.

2. How is the value of my gold calculated?

Gold value is the net weight multiplied by the gold rate per gram and the purity factor, for example 22K ÷ 24K. Lenders use their own valuation after testing the purity.

3. What is a bullet repayment gold loan?

In a bullet loan you repay the principal and the accumulated interest in one payment at the end of the tenure. There are no monthly instalments.

4. What is the difference between EMI and monthly interest plans?

With an EMI plan each payment includes both principal and interest. With a monthly interest plan you pay only the interest each month and repay the principal at the end.

5. Does gold purity change my eligibility?

Yes. Higher purity means a higher gold value, so you are eligible for a larger loan. Lower purity gold is valued at less.

6. Is this calculator's result final?

No. It is an estimate. The final loan amount, rate and charges are decided by the lender after valuing your gold.
